Fairy tales have always played an important role in my writing. I’m continuously drawn to the Jungian idea of fairy tales representing our greater collective unconscious. A deeper exploration of these archetypal stories can reveal our own buried and often destructive psychic and behavioral patterns. Most recently, I’ve been interested in the representation of the feminine in fairy tales and a book I return to again and again is Marie-Louise von Franz’s The Feminine in Fairy Tales.
